Former MP Temba Mliswa appointed village head in Shurugwi

Former Norton Member of Parliament Temba Mliswa has been appointed village head in his rural home in Shurugwi.

Temba Mliswa had been a parliamentarian for years, having represented Hurungwe before his expulsion from ZANU-PF in 2015. He ran as an independent candidate for the Norton seat in a 2016 by-election and won.

2018 Mliswa ran again in Norton and thrashed ZANU PF’s Chris Mutsvangwa. However, in the 2023 elections, he squared off with Morgan Tsvangirayi’s son, Richard, and he lost the seat.

Since the August 2023 election loss, Temba Mliswa has been less visible in the streets.

It seems Temba has a passion for leading people and has now bounced back, albeit in a less influential position.

He took to social media earlier today to announce that he is the new Village Head in his rural area. Mliswa replaced his niece Maria Dube, who resigned, citing illness. He will lead Mliswa Village under Chief Banga in Shurugwi.

As village head, Mliswa will now be responsible for:

Allocating communal land and other resources to households in the community

Collecting and distributing the village’s surplus production

Settling disputes between members of the community

Disciplining members of the community for violating rules and customs

Performing ceremonial duties for births, marriages, deaths, harvests, and other traditional feasts

Chairing the village assembly and the village development committee
