President Mnangagwa Fires Air Force Commander Hours After Bomb Scare, Announces Replacement

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has taken swift action in response to a bomb scare incident that occurred at Victoria Falls Airport on Friday.

Hours after his plane was forced to turn back to Harare for safety reasons, Mnangagwa fired Air Force boss Elson Moyo (pictured). In his place, Air Vice Marshal John Jacob Nzvede has been appointed as the new Commander of the Air Force of Zimbabwe.

These changes were announced in a statement released on Friday, with the dismissal of Elson Moyo and the appointment of John Jacob Nzvede set to take effect from the 15th of this month.

President Mnangagwa’s decision to fire Air Marshal Elson Moyo was made following section 340(1)(f) read with sections 216(2) and 89 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No.20).

The appointment of John Jacob Nzvede, on the other hand, was made following sections 216(2), 89, and 110(2)(d) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No.20).

Dr Christopher Pamhidza Pasi Appointed Health Service Commission Secretary

In addition to the firing of Air Force commander Elson Moyo, the statement also disclosed the appointment of Dr. Christopher Pamhidza Pasi as Secretary to the Health Service Commission, in line with section 10(1)(a) of the Health Service Amendment Act.

Dr. Pasi brings a wealth of qualifications and experience to his new role. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, a Masters in Medicine, a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, and is a Fellow of the College of Physicians in Central and East Africa. Dr Pasi has been a part of the Government since 1993 and has risen through the ranks, serving as the Chief Medical Officer at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital until his recent appointment.
