Tragic incident claims lives of three pupils in Mutare Road accident
In a devastating road accident along the Christmas Pass-Shamu Road in Mutare, three young pupils, aged between seven and thirteen, lost their lives when they were struck by a Toyota Fortuner that had veered off the road. The incident occurred at the 2km peg yesterday afternoon, while the children were crossing the road.
The victims were identified as Blessing Chisaria (nine), Silvian Maponde (thirteen), and Strive Maponde (seven), all residents of Grange, Toronto (Chirochangu Plot). A fourth pupil sustained injuries in the accident and was rushed to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for medical attention.
According to National Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the tragic incident unfolded when the vehicle veered off the road to the left, resulting in the collision. The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to the mortuary at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital.
“Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that motorists should be observant, alert and observe stipulated speed limits to safeguard lives,” he said.
“Above all, drivers are implored to abide by the road rules and regulations to curb road accidents.”
