Premier Soccer League newcomers, Chegutu Pirates’ coach Emmanuel Day Gutu said a casual approach in the first half attributed to their 0-1 defeat at the hands of ZPC Kariba at Baobab Stadium on Sunday.
In this league match dubbed *MashWest derby*, a harmless cross deflected off the leg of Meki Meki into the net comfortably thrusting visiting ZPC Kariba on the wheel.
Kariba dictated the pace throughout the initial half as they capitalised on the Pirates’ midfield that was in disarray
In the final half, the Pirates were however their enemies as they fluffed to cap the pressure they piled with a goal
In the early stages, Tinashe Mwafulirwa, unattended, failed to connect a cross from Eddington Phiri.
Gutu believes their casual first half play caused them to succumb to a second defeat in a row.
Last week Pirates fell by a similar margin when they played Fc Platinum
“I think we had a casual approach in the first half.
“Also technically our boys are failing to adjust to the way we want them play which demands a lot of energy.
“The boys are not really up to the stndadard but it’s work in progress and hopefully we will get it right.
Gutu’s counterpart Newten Chitewe was elated by the result considering he belittled his tutor.
“I’m excited by the result considering it was a MashWest derby and I was against my seniors.
“When Gutu was at ZPC, I was still a junior coach. I respect him a lot because he was my mentor but today I was in an uncompromising mood.
“I am also short of superlatives on how my charges adhered to instructions.
“I told them to defend and frustrate Pirates as they will be seeking for an equaliser and they executed nicely,” said Chitewe
