SAD NEWS: Veteran Actress Stellah January Dies Aged 55
The Zimbabwe film industry has been plunged into mourning following the death of seasoned actress Stellah January.
Stellah January died on Wednesday evening at the age of 55.
While the exact details surrounding her cause of death were unavailable at the time of writing, Stellah January’s passing was confirmed by colleagues and friends in the film and entertainment industry.
Condolences Pour In for the Late Actress
An outpouring of condolences continues to flood social media from friends, fans, industry colleagues, and family. Those fortunate enough to have worked with Stellah praised her for her exceptional talent and unwavering commitment.
One such tribute comes from film producer Siza Mukwedini, who lauded January for her acting prowess, describing her as the epitome of a true Zimbabwean woman on the screen. She said January would flawlessly portray the true Zimbabwean woman on screen. Siza also commended the late actress for her off-screen endeavours, highlighting her fearless advocacy for women’s rights in the film industry.
“If you need a really good actress that represents the true Zimbabwean woman, call Stellah January ndozvataiziva isu. And she would come and she would act the hell out of that piece. Off-screen, she also stood for women. I remember conversing with her about how they had been unfair but the women were afraid to speak up and she said to me, Siza, even if you were the only person on the group who stood up and said we were harassed and no one else does, I would believe you. No woman should feel unsafe on set, even if it was emotional. Maitwa sei nhai Amai,” penned Siza in her heartfelt tribute to the actress.

Stellah January will be remembered for her remarkable contributions to both the silver and small screens. Her journey in front of the camera began with the critically acclaimed movie “Yellow Card.” She also graced television drama series such as “Dzamombe Dzemashanga” and “Murambiwa.” Additionally, Stellah January showcased her talent in short films, including “The Team,” “Nyaminyami,” “Masimba, Pfuma,” “Gringo the Trouble Maker,” and “Dust and Fortune.” Her other film credits include “Munombodei,” “Kusika Moto,” “Status,’ “23 Musasa Avenue,” “The Ring,” “Vhunze,” and “Fools Day.”
