Highlanders maintained their unbeaten record in the PSL by scoring a penalty in the second half of their matchday 6 encounter against Ngezi Platinum Stars at Baobab Stadium on Saturday.

The game was extremely thrilling, with both teams displaying great attacking prowess that kept the spectators on the edge of their seats.

Ngezi Platinum Stars opened the scoring with a fantastic shot from Walter Vuwa that nestled in the roof net and clung onto the goal throughout the first half.

In the second half, Highlanders piled on the pressure and could have found an opener earlier, but Prince Ndlovu hit the crossbar.

Ndlovu persistently probed Ngezi’s defence, and it paid dividends when Kudzai Chigwida handled inside the box in a bid to block a pass.

In the dying stages of the game, Ngezi could have increased the tally but were denied what looked like clear penalties.

Ngezi coach, Takesure Chiragwi, expressed his contentment with the referee’s control of the game.

However, he mentioned that his team might have deserved one or two spot kicks in their favour, which didn’t happen, although he admitted that he might be behind with the laws of the game.

“Maybe I’m behind with the laws of the game but I thought we might have one or two penalties in favour of us but it was not like that”

” When something happens in the box, it’s natural to have assumptions.”

” However, the referee was near the situation and made the right decision.”

“He did an excellent job and I’m happy with how he controlled the game. It was a very exciting game, to be honest.”

Chiragwi also expressed his satisfaction with the points they earned in the game.

“We did everything correctly that is we defended well, attacked very well, and managed to score an early goal.”

“Unfortunately, we had a penalty when we were looking for a second goal

Chiragwi’s counterpart, Kaindu, admitted that the game was quite tough and he thanked his team for their second-half response which salvaged them a point.

“It was a very difficult game. We conceded very early and from that moment, we lost our focus.”

“At halftime, I spoke to the boys about how our mental fitness and character were being tested, and I’m happy with their response.”

“After the break, we came back stronger and managed to get an equalizer.”
