Eubert Angel introduces US$1 ambulance service

Controversial presidential envoy and ambassador at large, Eubert Angel has introduced a US$1 subscription ambulance service which is expected to be operational across the country.

The service will be extended for free to the elderly, recognising their vulnerability and the importance of timely medical assistance, says the self-proclaimed prophet.

Zimbabwe’s health services continue to be bedevilled by unavailability of public ambulance services which if available, remain out of reach for majority citizens.

Many people die because they fail to get to a healthcare centre in time.

The new Discovery Ambulance Services has been established as an investment initiative by Angel. The ambulance service so far boasts of 50 ambulances.

“The introduction of the $1 Ambulance Service is a monumental step towards addressing the dire need for accessible emergency medical care in Zimbabwe,” said Angel’s spokesperson, Tendai Murumbi.

“No one should lose their life due to the unavailability or unaffordability of ambulance services.

“We are committed to providing a lifeline to those in need.”

David Munowenyu, a medical expert who manages the private ambulance service said they plan to invest in at least 600 ambulances in the next few years.

“Our thrust is to offer the most affordable and efficient ambulance service,” Munowenyu said. We have a plan to have at least 600 ambulances in the next five years, multiplying our current fleet by 12.

“With this expansion, we aim to ensure that no one is left stranded during emergencies.”

Munowenyu said it was regrettable that many people were failing to get ambulance services when they get injured in traffic accidents.

“In response, we have devised a grand plan to station at least two ambulances at each tollgate, strategically positioned to respond swiftly to road traffic and other emergencies,” he said.

“This strategic deployment will significantly reduce response time and increase the chances of saving lives.”

He said Discovery Ambulance Services was also undertaking free First Aid training programmes in schools.

“We believe that by educating the younger generation about first aid, we can foster a culture of preparedness and empower individuals to take prompt action at critical moments.” The Standard
