Mutare man gets life sentence for axing wife

A 40-year-old man from Mutare who axed his wife to death last year will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Innocent Mujeni who axed his wife twice in the head after an altercation resulting in her dying on the spot, will have a permanent cell in prison after he was given a life sentence by the High Court.

Mujeni was charged with murder and was convicted after full trial.

Facts are that on the 3rd of September in 2023 Mujeni struck his wife, Vimbai Muchingamwa thrice with an axe; once on the shoulder and twice on the right side of her head following an altercation.

She died on the spot as a result of the assault.

Mujeni was convicted of murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Meanwhile, a six member vigilante group that allegedly beat up and killed a suspected thief in Beitbridge was arraigned in court facing a murder charge.

It is alleged that Rosemary Musonza aged (26), 35-year -old Pamela Musonza, Dadirai Taruvinga aged (24), Talent Matare aged (45), Isaiah Chakabva who is (36) years old and 20-year-old Luke Chinyowa ganged up on the suspected thief and beat him to death.

It is alleged that the now-deceased allegedly trespassed on the accused person’s residence by entering through a window.

One of the accused alerted others, which prompted her co accused to come to her rescue before they teamed up to assault the now deceased.

The six allegedly poured water on him rendering him unconscious.

The suspected thief was found dead the following morning leading to the arrest of the accused persons.

They were remanded in custody pending trial.
