Mutare woman fined for being married to two men at same time

A Mutare woman, Tambudzai Muwadi (40) was sentenced to pay a fine of USD120 by the Mutare Magistrates’ Court on a bigamy charge, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is reporting.

The accused person got married for the second marriage, knowing that her first marriage still existed.

On 8 January 2004, she married Jonathan Kisi and was issued a marriage certificate at Harare Magistrates’ Court. They later separated, but the two did not cancel their marriage officially.

On the 3rd Of September 2005, she married for the second time to Julius Tawanda Mukajami and was granted a marriage certificate.

The court ordered Muwadi to pay a USD120 fine or face 30 days imprisonment. The marriage certificate was referred to the Registrar General’s office for cancellation.
