Sanyati Launches Zero Waste Movement with a Call to Action: ‘Kadoma is Our Home, Zero Waste is Our Responsibility’

Kadoma, Zimbabwe – Sanyati launched the district’s Zero Waste Movement on Monday, 22 July 2024, at the Town House Square. The event was themed “Kadoma is Our Home, Zero Waste is Our Responsibility,” emphasizing the need for collective action to protect the environment.
The launch was attended by various stakeholders, including government officials, NEAT representatives, CBO members, and residents. In her keynote address, the Guest of Honor, Dr. Tirivangani Matare, representing Hon. Mirian Chombo, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland West Province, stressed the importance of individual responsibility in achieving a zero-waste society.
“We must recognize that waste management is not just a government or council responsibility, but a collective duty that requires each and every one of us to take action,” she said. “By working together, we can create a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Kadoma city council and Sanyati Rural district council for future generations.”
The Zero Waste Movement aims to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste, promoting environmentally friendly practices and behaviors among residents, businesses, and institutions. CABS, Pen Commercial College, Doves, Nyaradzo Life Assurance Company, EMA, Forestry Commission, Chaps Steel, Rockfoundation, and other CBOs pledged their support for the initiative, committing to collaborate with the city council and Rural district council in implementing waste reduction strategies and educating the community on the importance of environmental conservation.
The event featured interactive displays, exhibitions, and cultural performances, highlighting the impact of waste on the environment and the benefits of a zero-waste lifestyle. Participants also engaged in a clean-up campaign, collecting trash and recyclables from the surrounding areas.
The Sanyati district Zero Waste Movement is a significant step towards creating a more sustainable and environmentally conscious community. With the collective efforts of all stakeholders, Sanyati district can become a model for zero-waste management in Zimbabwe.
