KAMPALA — The Zimbabwe senior men’s rugby team displayed grit and determination on Wednesday afternoon as they clinched a commanding 32-10 victory over Namibia in the Rugby Africa Cup semi-finals at Mutesa 11 Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.
The Sables, ranked 30th in the latest World Rugby rankings, showcased their dominance early in the game, leading 14-3 at halftime against the defending champions and 24th-ranked Namibia.
This victory marks Zimbabwe’s first over Namibia since 2001, underscoring their resurgence in African rugby.
Zimbabwe’s next challenge will be the Rugby Africa Cup final, where they will face Algeria on Saturday.
Algeria secured their spot in the final with a surprising 20-12 victory over Kenya, bolstered by star fullback Julien Caminati’s four penalties.
The Rugby Africa Cup, featuring the top eight African nations, has been a showcase of competitive rugby talent at the Mandela National Stadium and Wankulukuku Stadium in Uganda.
The tournament, running from July 20 to July 28, has drawn attention to emerging rugby nations on the continent, including Cote D’Ivoire, Senegal, Burkina Faso, and host nation Uganda.
Zimbabwe’s advancement to the final sets the stage for a thrilling finale against Algeria, promising an exciting conclusion to this year’s Rugby Africa Cup.
