Alick Macheso’s Album Launch Postponed Following Government Ban on Public Events Ahead of SADC Summit?
Alick Macheso’s manager, Tich Makahamadze, has allayed fears that the Orchestra Mberikwazvo frontman’s album launch will be postponed, despite the government’s ban on public events ahead of the SADC summit in August.
Macheso is set to launch his album “Kupa Kuturika” at the Alexander Sports Club in Harare on Friday. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has given the event the green light, even though there were initial concerns about the event clashing with the SADC Industrialisation Week.
Alick Macheso’s Album Launch Approved
Officer Commanding Harare District, Chief Superintendent Godfrey Moyo, has advised Macheso’s camp to strictly adhere to the conditions of the clearance.
“Your notification letter to hold a musical event on the 2nd of August 2024 at Alex Sports Club from 2100hrs to 0400hrs has been noted. Please confine your event to the above-stated venue and times outlined. Make sure that no Zimbabwean laws are violated. The police will monitor,” he said.
Orchestra Mberikwazvo’s Commitment to Responsible Conduct
Speaking to The Sunday Mail, Orchestra Mberikwazvo band manager Tich Makahamadze confirmed the police clearance and thanked the relevant authorities for giving the launch their stamp of approval. Makahamadze assured that the Orchestra Mberikwazvo will be on their best behaviour and ensure the event is conducted within the conditions.
