Zimbabwe’s Makarawu, Charamba eye semi-final success at Olympics

Zimbabwe’s sprinters Makanakaishe Charamba and Tapiwanashe Makarawu have captured the nation’s attention with their impressive performances at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Charamba, who was first on track on Monday, clocked an impressive 20.27 seconds to finish second behind Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo, who won the heat in 20.10 seconds.

Makarawu, competing in heat five, finished second in 20.07 seconds, joining his countryman in the semi-final.

Making their debut at the Olympics, the duo is determined to keep the momentum going and make their mark on the world stage.

“There’s nothing much to prepare the work is already done I’m just going to talk to my coach for guidance on how to run the semis he has been there before so he knows how to get me to the final,” said Charamba.

Makarawu said, “The experience is very amazing, it’s my first time here so I’m just taking every competition as it is and see how it goes.”

As Charamba and Makarawu prepare for the semi-finals this Wednesday, the nation holds its breath, hoping that they will continue to shine and make history.

“We are rallying behind the team we hope for the best in the semi-finals,” said a supporter.

Another said, “We are supporting them as a nation and hope the boys win medals.”

With their impressive performances so far, Charamba and Makarawu have already done their country proud.

Now, they have their sights set on reaching the podium and probably bringing home the coveted Olympic medals.
