Three killed in Rushinga business centre shooting
RUSHINGA — A tragic shooting at Rushinga Business Centre in the early hours of yesterday has left four people dead, including the alleged perpetrator, a soldier from the Rushinga Army Base.
According to a police memo seen by Kukurigo, Corporal Henry Ncube, who was part of a patrol team, fatally shot three people before turning the gun on himself. The incident began when Ncube and a fellow soldier, both armed and in uniform, entered Chikuni Bottle Store, causing unease among patrons. An altercation ensued outside the store with Justice Makiwa, 33, a local resident. Ncube reportedly shot Makiwa in the head, killing him instantly.
Ncube then fired multiple rounds, wounding another soldier, Lance Corporal Simbo Tawanda, and killing a second victim, Victor Mufaro Dzaoma, 38. Ncube fled the scene and returned to the army barracks, where he fatally shot his girlfriend, Evernice Magwenzi, 18, before taking his own life.
Police and CID officers from Mt Darwin attended the scenes, where they recovered evidence and secured the area, a police memo further stated. The bodies have been sent to Chimhanda Hospital for postmortem examinations, and forensic teams are continuing their investigations.
