Police Seize Massive Dagga; Villagers Admit Growing Drug By Riverbank

POLICE in Mashonaland West have scored a major victory in the fight against drugs and banned substances following the arrest of five villagers for illegal cultivation of dagga.

Dagga, also known as marijuana or weed in street lingo, is categorised under dangerous drugs and substances in the country.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the development at the weekend.

“On August 14, 2024, police in Magunje acted on received information and arrested, Stewart Nyamufarira (29), Fungai Chinoripi (37), Godfrey Nyamufarira (52), Pearcious Nyamufarira (19) and Tasiyana Zingore (48) at Nyamufarira village, Dandawa, Batanai for illegal possession of 333.5 kilogrammes (kg) of dagga.

“Stewart Nyamufarira was found with 188 kg, Fungai Chinioripi, 89.5 kg, Godfrey Nyamufarira, 32.40 kg, Pearcious Nyamufarira 10.35 kg and Tasiyana Zingore, 13.25 kg,”

According to police, the suspects claimed that they cultivated the dagga in their gardens along Sanyati River.

In a separate incident, police in Gokwe on August 16, 2024, arrested Rosemary Siangumbule (47) and Quean Siajame (36) at Siachengwa village, Simuchembo, Kabuyuni in connection with illegal possession of four 20-litre buckets and a half plastic bag of processed dagga. *NewZW*
