ZAS CEO Dr Matibiri Commends Exhibitors Turnout For 114th Edition of Zimbabwe Agricultural Show
By Desire Tshuma
The Zimbabwe Agricultural Show kicked off on Monday August 26 with an improved turnout of local and international exhibitors.
“Monday was a quiet day; it was a day for judging performances for different exhibitors like tobacco, cattle, cotton, to mention a few. Since the official opening was done on Tuesday by Mozambican President H.E Nyusi, we had a task of doing judgements on Monday for the awards for best performances,” said Dr Matibiri.
“On Tuesday before the official opening of the Show, all exhibitions were ready. A total of 564 exhibitors were recorded by Tuesday morning just before the official opening, compared to last year where we had 525 exhibitors.
“We had 12 international exhibitors recorded by Tuesday morning, namely Pakistan, Russia, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Japan, Germany, Eswatini and others,” said Dr Matibiri.
Only one incident since the beginning of the show has been recorded where a vehicle smashed into an exhibition stand resulting in the injury of two people and the Zimbabwe Republic Police are investigating the incident.
With the EI Nino induced drought most farmers stands are displaying very few commodities, while in the cattle stands there is good turnout of cattle breeds. As the show proceeds more activities are expected to be displayed from the Police, army and ZPCS at the Glamis Arena and artists are scheduled to thrill exhibitors and children.
