Mazowe MP Tsungai Makumbe accused of raping ex-wife at gunpoint and infecting her with HIV
Tsungai Makumbe, the Zanu PF legislator representing Mazowe North, has recently been brought before the court on severe allegations of r_ping his former wife, an act that allegedly resulted in both pregnancy and the transmission of HIV.
The incident that led to Tsungai Makumbe’s arrest
The alleged crime occurred in November 2023, but the incident was only reported earlier this week.
According to the prosecution, Tsungai Makumbe arrived at his ex-wife’s home late at night, around 11 PM. He called her outside, and when she complied, he proposed rekindling their romantic relationship. However, she rejected his advances.
In response, Makumbe reportedly drew a firearm and forcefully dragged her into his car. Once inside, he is accused of sexually assaulting her without using protection.
Aftermath and Legal Proceedings
The prosecution, led by Lancelot Mutsokoti, stated that during the attack, Makumbe pulled the complainant’s leg, forcing her to stand on the ground before assaulting her.
After the assault, Makumbe allegedly offered her USD 20 to purchase emergency contraceptives, but she refused the money.
The woman later sought medical treatment at Parirenyatwa Hospital, where it was confirmed that she was both HIV-positive and pregnant. She reported the matter to the police, and it led to the arrest of the member of parliament.
