Male NUST Student Found Dead And Decomposing In His Room

A male student from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) was found dead and in a decomposing state in his room yesterday.

The cause of the death is still yet to be revealed and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is still probing the bone-chilling incident.

The body was discovered in one of the rooms at the recently completed Bulawayo Students Accommodation Complex (BSAC) adjacent to the institution’s main campus along the Bulawayo-Gwanda Road.

According to eyewitnesses, the body was found in a state of advanced decomposition and the room, located in one of the hostel’s blocks, was locked from the inside. Authorities are yet to conduct an autopsy to also determine when the student died.

video that has since gone viral on Zimbabwean social media shows a ZRP officer and some of the university’s auxiliary staff carrying the decomposed body in a metal coffin and loading it into a police pickup truck. They all wore masks because of the pungent stench from the decomposing body. Eyewitnesses stood close by, some on the hostel balcony, to see the heart rending incident.

The incident evoked sad reactions online.

“Some of the things zvatoita basa nazvo vanhu soo. Tiri busy kutaura zvekuti coffin ⚰️ as if akaiswa makanaka achamuka instead of talking about zvinoita kuti tizive chakauraya munhu.”

Munya:

“People talking about mota, coffin and machira!!!! How can someone die and decompose without someone noticing in time? Aren’t the rooms shared?? Anga asina mafriends who noticed first or second day kuti he hasn’t been out???”

Pee:

“May his soul rest in peace. But what’s disturbing is how our country cannot afford a proper covered forensic pathology van. So now what? The van drives around Bulawayo making its way to the nearest mortuary, spreading the unmistakable odour of death to everyone around? Yoh! Mwari ngaatibatsire! It’s a shame for a country that has so much values and morals.”

Chichi:

“If you ask me, one of the saddest and loneliest things that can happen is for someone to die ari ega. May his family find closure and peace.”

Mukunda:

“It’s sad that after all he went through to be at NUST, that his dreams have gone. The family that lost their loved one. May his soul rest in peace.”

Bester:

“May his soul rest in eternal peace. Students please check on each other at school. People are going through so much in this environment. With no proper guidance, they end up like this over issues that only needed counseling.”
