Prophet Madungwe strikes again, arrested for crashing the car he was gifted by Wicknell Chivayo… plus NO driver’s license

Self-proclaimed prophet Talent Madungwe found himself in the dock at Epworth Magistrate’s Court yesterday, facing charges of negligent driving and driving without a valid driver’s licence.

The case, adjourned until today, adds another layer to the already colourful and controversial life of the flamboyant preacher.

The prosecution, led by Rutendo Nyamutswa, requested a postponement to amend their court documents, leaving Madungwe to return today for further proceedings. He was released on bail pending his reappearance.

Madungwe’s legal troubles are a far cry from the headlines he made earlier this year when he received a brand new Toyota Aqua as a gift from controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo. The vehicle, part of Chivayo’s much-publicised car giveaway programme, was presented to Madungwe in February, alongside fellow celebrity Jah Bob. The gift, however, came with a condition: Madungwe was expected to obtain a driver’s licence before taking possession of the vehicle.

This condition, it appears, was not met. The State revealed in court yesterday that Madungwe did not possess a valid licence at the time of his arrest, a fact that directly contradicts earlier reports suggesting he had obtained one before collecting his gift.

Prosecutor Nyamutswa’s request for a postponement highlights the need for the prosecution to rectify this discrepancy in their documentation before proceeding with the case. The court’s decision to grant the adjournment suggests a need for a more thorough examination of the facts surrounding the case.

Madungwe’s brief tenure with his new vehicle has been far from smooth sailing. Just three months after receiving the Aqua, he found himself embroiled in a separate controversy: unpaid rent. His landlady, Gogo Manyonga, revealed her frustration with the prophet’s evasiveness and failure to pay four months’ rent.

While she initially showed leniency due to Madungwe’s celebrity status, her patience eventually wore thin, leading to an eviction notice. Gogo Manyonga was reportedly shocked when Madungwe nearly fled without settling his outstanding debt.

Madungwe’s explanation for his financial difficulties was, to say the least, unconventional. “Things have not been well for me since September last year,” he explained.

“Ukaona wakushaya mari yekubhadhara rent ziva kuti nevana varikutofa nenzara. I am being attacked by the Devil because of preaching the Word, and a number of enemies are after my downfall, but I will not give up.”

This dramatic appeal for assistance ultimately proved successful, with a well-wisher stepping in to resolve his rental arrears.

The latest incident, involving a car crash and the subsequent charges, raises questions about Madungwe’s driving habits and his adherence to legal requirements.

The fact that he was driving without a licence, despite the condition set by Chivayo, adds a layer of complexity to the situation. It remains to be seen whether another benefactor will come to his rescue this time, or if Madungwe will face the consequences of his actions.
