Fans walk out as South African rapper Cassper Nyovest performs in Zimbabwe
Cassper Nyovest, the South African rapper, faced an unexpected reaction from fans during his performance in Zimbabwe.
On October 5, 2024, Nyovest took the stage at the Stanbic Jacaranda Music Festival, held at the Thorn Park Polo Grounds in Harare. The three-day event had been eagerly anticipated by music lovers, with Nyovest as the main act for the second day.
According to a report by iHarare News, as Nyovest began his set, the crowd seemed engaged, enjoying his popular songs. However, the atmosphere changed when he started performing “Siyathandana.” Surprisingly, people began to leave the venue in large numbers. Despite the cold weather they had endured while waiting for his performance, many chose to exit as soon as he began singing this particular track.
The rapper, known for his professionalism, continued with his performance even as fans were walking out. He sang “Siyathandana,” which features the talented South African singer Boohle, without interruption. This unexpected turn of events left many wondering about the reason behind the sudden exodus of fans.
The apparent boycott of Nyovest’s performance seems to be connected to recent personal issues that came to light. Just days before the Zimbabwe show, Thobeka Majozi, the mother of Nyovest’s son, shared a heartbreaking story on social media. Majozi revealed that their son, Kgotso, who recently turned 4, had been diagnosed with cancer when he was only eight months old.
In her emotional post, Majozi described the challenging period she went through, saying, “She revealed that their son was diagnosed with cancer at eight months. The situation was so bad that she stayed at a hospital for two years.”
While Majozi was dedicated to their son’s care during this difficult time, she discovered that Nyovest had been unfaithful. She shared, “As she fought for their son to live, Nyovest was cheating on her.”
The situation became even more complicated as Majozi added, “Thobeka added that the ‘Baby Girl’ rapper was cheating with a lady who would spite her and flaunt the scandalous relationship.”
When Majozi found out about the infidelity, Nyovest reportedly ended the relationship with the other woman and tried to reconcile with Majozi. However, the emotional damage had been done. Majozi explained, “When Thobeka found the infidelity out, Nyovest dumped his side chick. He tried fixing things with the mother of his child, but Thobeka was too broken to forgive the cheating.”
In a surprising development, Nyovest later married the woman he had been involved with during his son’s illness. The report states, “Cassper Nyovest later went on to marry the lady, whose name is Pulane Mojaki, this year.”
Following Majozi’s revelations, Nyovest acknowledged his actions and sought forgiveness. The article mentions, “The rapper confirmed that he cheated on Thobeka during their son’s cancer fight. He also asked for forgiveness.”
This personal drama seems to have affected Nyovest’s public image, leading to the negative reaction from fans in Zimbabwe. The walkout during his performance of “Siyathandana” appears to be a form of protest against his behavior.
The Stanbic Jacaranda Music Festival, which had been promoted as a celebration of music, unexpectedly became a platform for fans to express their disappointment in Nyovest’s personal choices. The event, which took place over three days, had attracted music enthusiasts from all over Zimbabwe and beyond.
Despite the controversy surrounding Nyovest’s performance, the festival continued with other artists taking the stage. The organizers had put together a lineup of both local and international acts to entertain the crowd at the Thorn Park Polo Grounds.
