Zimbabwe shaken by deadly road tragedy
Zimbabwe witnessed a series of tragic road accidents, leading to loss of life and injuries. The most severe incident took place on the Chivhu-Ray Road. This accident involved a head-on collision between two vehicles: a Toyota Wish carrying eight passengers and an Isuzu DMax with two occupants. The crash occurred around 10:00 AM at the 61-kilometer mark on the road. The impact was devastating, causing the Isuzu DMax to veer off the road, overturn, and eventually land back on its wheels. Unfortunately, three people lost their lives in this accident, and eight others sustained injuries.
According to a report by myzimbabwe, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the details of this tragic event through a statement shared on Twitter. The statement read: “The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 03/10/24 at around 1000 hours at the 61 kilometre peg along Chivhu-Ray Road. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Gutu Mission Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations, while those injured received treatment at the same hospital.
As investigations into the cause of the accident continue, the ZRP has urged all motorists to be cautious and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies in the future. The authorities are emphasizing the importance of road safety and are appealing to drivers to exercise vigilance while driving.
On the same day, another unfortunate incident occurred in Harare. This involved a hit-and-run accident along Amalinda Road near the Boka Tobacco Auction Floor. A haulage truck struck a pedestrian, causing a broken leg, and then fled the scene without stopping to assist the victim. The injured pedestrian was taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital for medical treatment. In response to this incident, the police in Harare have made an appeal for information that could help in their investigation.
