Ministry Of Justice, Legal And Parliamentary Affairs Commemorates National Real Estate Day In Zimbabwe

October 15 is a National Real Estate Day in Zimbabwe, the day is a special occasion to pay tribute to the dedication and professionalism of real estate practitioners across the nation highlighting the sector’s significant role in driving Zimbabwe’s socio-economic development.

The occasion was graced by the Deputy Minister of Justice, Legal And Parliamentary Affairs  Advocate Norbert T. Mazungunye. The deputy minister applauded the President Dr Emerson Mnangagwa for his unwavering commitment to economic empowerment which has enabled the real estate sector to grow into a vital component of the national development strategy.

“As we mark this important day, it is crucial to emphasize that the right to property is enshrined in section 71 of the constitution of Zimbabwe and it guarantees every citizen’s right to acquire, hold and dispose of property. This is also supported by regional and international frameworks, such as the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which acknowledge property ownership as a fundamental human right and a cornerstone of individual and national development ” said Adv Mazungunye.

The deputy minister acknowledged that the real estate sector faces significant challenges that threaten it’s intergrity . ” Issues such as illegal and unregistered estate agents, land barons and the risk of money laundering pose serious risks to both industry’s credibility and public trust. We as the ministry in collaboration with the Estate Agents Council (EAC) , the Real Estate Institute of Zimbabwe (REIZ) and law enforcement agencies, are committed to addressing these challenges and protecting the public from these unscrupulous elements ” added Deputy Minister Adv Mazungunye.

He went further and said through the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) are actively monitoring transactions within the sector to prevent money laundering and ensure that all investments in real estate are legitimate and contribute positively to the economy.

National Real Estate Day celebrations are scheduled to take place on Friday October 18 at Alex Park Sports Club . During the event, there shall be a diverse exhibition if real estate companies, advisory services from regulatory bodies and discussions on essential topics such as property buying, selling and management. Professionals in the real estate industry will be available who shall lecture about the conveyancing process and gain insights into securing tittle deeds . There shall also be entertainment from different music artists.
