38 students arrested at Vhuzu party: See what Police discovered that got Zimbabweans talking
A recent police raid in Bulawayo’s Pumula South has brought attention to the growing concern of underage drinking and partying. On Friday, police apprehended 38 minors, mostly students from various schools across the city, during a Vuzu party. The minors were found with condoms and alcohol, and claimed they were attending a birthday party without their parents’ knowledge.
The police were tipped off by vigilant neighbors who reported suspicious activity at the location. Upon arrival, officers searched the house and discovered unused condoms, two 750ml bottles of vodka, 15 liters of wine, and a bottle of glue. The students were from schools such as COH&H College, Foundation College, and Northlea High School. The police have released the minors into their parents’ custody and referred them to Mpilo Hospital for medical examinations.
This incident comes on the heels of another similar case in Chitungwiza, where six students were caught having intimate sessions at a local lodge. The lodge employee who booked the rooms has been arrested and is assisting with investigations. These incidents have sparked concern among parents and community leaders about the safety and well-being of children. Mrs. Phumulani Khumalo, a member of a local neighborhood watch committee, noted that children are using social media to organize these parties without supervision.
Community members are emphasizing the importance of collaboration to combat crime and protect children.
“We are committed to creating safe, crime-free communities. Our goal is to protect our children and help them secure a bright future,” said one resident. Parents are being urged to prioritize their children’s safety and ensure they are not left unattended. As Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele stated, “We appreciate the public for providing valuable information that led to these arrests, and we encourage parents to keep a close eye on their children’s activities.”
