MACHESO SHINES WHERE MARK NGWAZI FLOPPED . . . Baba Shero is the BIGGEST crowd puller, among Zim artists, in Johannesburg

ALICK Macheso is not only the King of Sungura, he also lives on a different planet, when it comes to this genre.

The likes of Mark Ngwazi are up and coming but they probably need, let’s say, ten years of hit songs, to even come close to being mentioned in the same bracket as Macheso.

That some people even try to compare Macheso and any of these up-and-coming stars is an insult to the profile and brilliance of Baba Shero.

Macheso cemented his position as the biggest crowd puller in

Johannesburg, when it comes to Zimbabwean artists, after yet another full house at the Newtown Music Factory, on Saturday night.

The gig lived up to its pre-event hype as hundreds flocked to the Jozi entertainment centre.

Earlier this month, Ngwazi’s show at the same venue was a flop with less than 100 people attending.

For Macheso’s show, the organisers pegged the cheapest ticket at a cool R400 while the VIP tickets were going for R1 000.

These were probably the most expensive tickets for a Zimbabwean artist at the venue.

Credit must go to the event organisers Ocean Entertainment and KLC Entertainment who ensured the event was incident-free.

Unlike previous events, where one or two fights would break out, none was witnessed as the very tight security maintained peace throughout.

Zimbabwean-owned Lonwabo Security were on duty with heavily-armed personnel and ensured fans had the time of their lives.

There was a lot at stake after many were betting against a full house, in these tough economic times.

Macheso cemented his position as the biggest crowd puller in Johannesburg, when it comes to Zimbabwean artists, after yet another full house at the Newtown Music Factory, on Saturday night.

Some even tried to sabotage the show by spreading falsehoods that there would be a raid by South African immigration authorities during the show.

It deterred only a few from coming.

Not even malicious social media posts alleging that the show had been cancelled would deter the Orchestra Mberikwazvo fans from meeting their idol.

Macheso once again proved to all doubting Thomases that he still has enough gas in his tank to last many miles to come.

Tich Makahamadze, the Orchestra Mberikwazvo spokesperson, said:

“It is always a humbling experience when we come to Johannesburg. The love that the fans show us as a band is beyond measure.

“For that we will always be thankful and will do even better in future shows.”

It was also a night where Andy Muridzo and his Jeetaz Band gave a fine performance despite performing for just under two hours.

He wowed the crowd with hits such as Dherira, Emma, Chidhafudhunda, among others.

He stole the hearts of many when he did a rendition of Jah Prayzah’s Chiremerera.

The live performances only started at around 11pm.

The main act only took to the stage at 1am and played for an uninterrupted four hours.

The show spilled way beyond the normal closing hours of 2am.

Pretoria’s finest DJs Inno B and Mr Gee Warrior were on point in their sets.

Award-winning MC Rico Myers and Slim Dhafu also provided good entertainment for the crowd.

Welly “Mbinga” Manyonda, Oliver Mambambamba, Papa Oli Noruware, Felistas Chizororo, Niederer Mhofela Mupamhadzi, PK July of Underground Entertainment, were among the high profile people who attended the show.

The Kupa Kuturika Album tour continued last night with the Pretoria leg at Propaganda Nite Spot. _*HMetro*_
