The dry spell, which began today, is expected to last until Friday, January 31, and will affect areas such as Bulawayo Metropolitan, Midlands, Masvingo, Matabeleland North, and Matabeleland South.

According to the MSD, the shift in rainfall patterns is being caused by the movement of moisture from the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), which has shifted further north. This change has resulted in a temporary dry period across the affected regions, where the usual rainfall expected at this time of year will be substantially reduced.

The dry spell is anticipated to have significant effects on agriculture and water resources in the impacted areas, especially in regions already struggling with water shortages. Farmers in these regions are being urged to monitor their crops closely and take necessary precautions to minimize potential losses.

The MSD has also recommended that residents in these regions prepare for increased temperatures and ensure that they have adequate water supplies during the dry period. The advisory has raised concerns among farmers who rely on the rains for crop production, as well as communities that depend on rainfall for their water sources.

The government and local authorities are being urged to provide support and resources to mitigate the effects of the dry spell, particularly in rural communities where access to water and agricultural resources may be more limited.

As the dry spell progresses, Zimbabweans are encouraged to stay informed about weather updates and take appropriate actions to safeguard their health and livelihoods.
