Zimbabwe drawn in Group B for 2025 Africa Cup of Nations
Zimbabwe will face Egypt, South Africa, and Angola in Group B of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) following the tournament’s draw held in Rabat, Morocco, on 27 January 2025.
The Warriors will compete against seven-time champions Egypt, likely led by Mohamed Salah, and regional rivals South Africa in the group stages. The Afcon, hosted by Morocco, kicks off on 21 December 2025, with the final set for 18 January 2026 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
Morocco opens the tournament against Comoros in Group A, which also features Mali and Zambia. Defending champions Côte d’Ivoire headline Group F alongside Cameroon, Gabon, and Mozambique, while Group D sees 2021 winners Senegal face DR Congo, Benin, and Botswana. The tournament, moved to a December start, will be played across six Moroccan cities, including Rabat, Marrakech, and Tangier.
Of the 24 teams who are through to the Africa Cup of Nations, it is Botswana who have endured the longest wait.
The Zebras last qualified in 2012, which was also their Afcon debut.
However, Botswana did not progress from the group stage and lost all three of their games.
Ghana failed to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since 2004 after a shocking qualification campaign for the Black Stars.
They failed to beat Angola in November, a month after captain Mohammed Kudus issued an apology on behalf of the team.
“We’ve not been truthful to ourselves and this is where we have landed,” Kudus said after a defeat to Sudan.
“The team is not playing well, there’s no consistency or passion. We are playing like there’s nothing at stake. It’s very sad and embarrassing for us.”
