ED2030 is Godโs plan, says Makururu
Leader of the Johanne the Fifth of Africa International church Archbishop Andyby Makururu has claimed that it is Godโs plan for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to remain in power beyond the end of his second five-year term in 2028.
Makururu made the remarks on Tuesday in an interview with NewsDay, and claimed that elections in 2028 would be a โwaste of resources.โ
Makururu, who has been seen with Mnangagwa at State House, said there is need for development in the country, which he said the President is leading.
โWe want development in the country. This is why we are saying President Emmerson Mnangagwa should be around until 2030. We donโt want to continue having elections, so if we have elections time and again, it will cost us as a country,โ he added.
โWe should not be guided by whites. We have our own traditional leaders. Elections are just nothing. We need development, something which is tangible. Let President Emmerson Mnangagwa complete his vision.โ
Added Makururu: โAs someone who was sent by God, we donโt want elections. They are a waste of time. When Godโs time comes, He will speak.
โAt the moment, itโs President Mnangagwa who has been chosen. Elections will bring poverty and bloodshed.โ
Makururu said Zimbabweans should accept Godโs plan and โlet him [Mnangagwa] ruleโ.
โThat is what God has said. Vision 2030 is a vision set by God so that President Mnangagwa can continue to rule the country. God told me that ED should continue to rule until we are given a new leader.โ
Zanu PF adopted a resolution at the partyโs annual conference in October last year to extend Mnangagwaโs tenure from 2028 to 2030.
Mnangagwa has repeatedly said he does not intend to extend his term of office, but his loyalists are forging ahead with the 2030 agenda, insisting that they are guided by the partyโs resolution.
The 2030 agenda has divided Zanu PF, with one faction aligned to Mnangagwa and the other to his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga. Newsday
