City of Kadoma Mayor’s Cheer Fund lived to its billing when it delivered a host of family provisions packed in hampers for households at a function held end of January at Kadoma City Hall.

The hampers comprised of sugar, bathing tablets, washing soap and/or powder, cooking oil, flour, salt, peanut butter, toothpaste and mealie meal among others.

From the onset, 200 beneficiaries are targeted in the initial phase. So far, half the targeted beneficiaries who managed to turn out for the event got their share and walked all the way home smiling.

Among recipients are orphans, widows, people with disabilities and senior residents.

The remainder of the hampers not yet collected are in stock at Town House which were seen by this publication in the mayor’s office after full council meeting on the same day.

The event, a follow up on a pledge made by the city fathers at the launch of the 2024 Mayor’s Cheer Fund, saw beneficiaries and proxies receive hampers comprising of these basic commodities, much to their joy and satisfaction.

The distribution also comes at a time some families are hard pressed to make ends meet at the beginning of the year with competing demands like rentals, school fees and debt settlement.

The cheer fund lived to its brand, bringing cheer to residents who are a vital cog in the existence of the city.

This event eclipses the cloud over the fund which had bogged the arrangement for a number of years with only lip service to write home about.

Mayor Cllr. Nigel Ruzario brought a new lease of life on the arm meant to say, “Thank you”, to residents of the gold mining city.

For their innovative ideas, the new broom at city hall has reinvented the organ such that it is not a one term event but, a year long roll out that listens to no season.

“We now have a cheer fund that is active all year round. We will be engaging various stakeholders and holding a host of activities for the benefit of the fund hence, our dear residents. A wellness day and golf tournament are already part of the trajectory for fund and resource mobilization. We will not wait for the festive season alone to deliver goodies to identified beneficiaries.”

Adding: “After the distribution today, Tuesday, we will be going to institutions around the city and see how we can chip in. Some institutions have legacy benefactors already and our inclusive thrust is to look at those that may not have perennial partners to assist them. We will however, not fail to chip in for those others that have benefactors, suffice to say, some cases need urgency on impromptu resource mobilization.”

The Mayor’s Cheer Fund has been activated after long years in the lull. Arguably, the city had forgotten or frowned at the existence of this cheer fund, taking it as a stinking white elephant.

The leadership has now revived the fund with zeal, bringing back the good cheerful days by their demonstration of walking the talk.
