Suspects already bought cars, stands with loot from Chivayo in-laws robbery

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says the gang that robbed businessman Wicknell Chivayo’s in-laws had already spent a significant portion of the stolen money.

Police confirmed the arrest of Temptation Gerald Dinhidza (44), Tawana Mushawatu (45), Arnold Tafireyi (38), and Mike Mhaka (45) for the robbery, which occurred at Alpha Omega Farm in Marondera. On 25 March 2025, detectives from CID Homicide received information implicating Temptation Gerald Dinhidza in the robbery and learned that he intended to sell a Mercedes-Benz C200, registration number AEW 5657, which he had purchased using his share of the loot. The detectives tracked him down and arrested him near Seke High School in Chitungwiza.

Further investigations led to the arrest of three other suspects, Tawana Mushawatu, Arnold Tafireyi, and Mike Mhaka.

The suspects then led detectives to the recovery of USD 1,700 in cash, a .455 Smith & Wesson revolver, 20 live rounds of 12-bore ammunition, 23 live rounds of 9mm ammunition, and an empty magazine. It was established that the suspects had used the stolen money to purchase household goods, motor vehicles, residential stands, building materials, and foodstuffs.

As much as USD 75,000 was stolen from the farm, money which was believed to have been the lobola/roora paid by Chivayo to marry Lulu.
