‘THEY BEAT ME, RAPED HER & STOLE EVERYTHING’ – PELANDABA MAN & NKETA GIRLFRIEND’S 3-HOUR NYAMANDLOVU ROAD TERROR

A 37-year-old man from Pelandaba West and his 26-year-old girlfriend from Nketa 7 in Bulawayo survived a brutal 3-hour ordeal along the Bulawayo- Nyamandlovu Road on 31 March when two armed men ambushed them in a violent attack, involving false cattle rustling accusations, severe beatings, rape and robbery.

At around 5 PM, the couple had parked their Toyota Hilux along Mbuyazwe area to rest on the load box when two men emerged from the western side of the road.

“They accused me of stealing their cattle and immediately attacked,” the male victim told police.

According to Bulawayo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele: “One attacker produced a black pistol and brutally pistol-whipped the complainant twice on the back of the head while the other stabbed him four times – twice in each buttock – with an Okapi knife.”

The assailants force-marched them 200m into dense bush, bound them with electrical cables and rope.

They ransacked their vehicle, stealing: US$1 000, 4 Samsung Galaxy phones and the Hilux valued at R400 000.

The ordeal continued as the suspects dragged the woman away and raped her without protection.

Police report that: “The accused person who had gone to the car then came back and gave complainant his bank cards, driver’s licence and they drove away in complainant’s car leaving the complainants behind.”

After the attackers fled in their stolen vehicle, the couple: worked free from their bindings, stumbled 3km along Nyamandlovu Road and flagged down a Good Samaritan who took them to police.

Asst Insp Msebele urged: “Avoid secluded parking spots. These criminals are still at large and extremely dangerous.”
