Girl (12) reports mother for ‘murdering’ newborn brother
A 12-year-old-girl reported her mother to the Police after she allegedly left her day-old baby boy in a bucket under the bed, ‘killed’ him and buried the body in a shallow grave.
National Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the girl and her niece also aged 12 alerted the Police after the baby had been buried in a shallow grave.
The incident happened on December 8, 2024, in Hopely Zone 6, Waterfalls, Harare.
Irene Pamela Govati is still on the run after her daughter reported her to the Police who are appealing for any information that can lead to her arrest.

Rejoice Mapfumo, an accomplice in the case has since been arrested.
Circumstances are that Govati gave birth to a baby boy whom she allegedly hid in a bucket under her bed.
Her daughter and niece heard the baby crying and found him in the bucket. Govati who was outside the house returned and took the baby to Mapfumo who allegedly held the baby by the legs and banged him on the ground.
The baby died and the two women buried the baby in a shallow grave.
Govati’s daughter and her niece alerted Police who retrieved the body and arrested Mapfumo. Govati evaded arrest and is on Police’s wanted list. Masvingo Mirror
