Man jailed for performing community service on sibling’s behalf
A 31-year-old Harare man has been slapped with a jail term following his conviction for performing community service on behalf of his brother.
Tinashe Kaseva from Dzivarasekwa was found guilty of impersonating his brother.
He has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for the offence.
“In March 2025, Tinashe showed up at Dzivarasekwa Police Station claiming to be his brother Wilbert Kaseva, who had been ordered by the court to do 210 hours of community service for a separate offence.
“Tinashe even used Wilbert’s ID to convince a police officer to let him perform his community service,” the state proved.
The plan fell apart in April when police followed up on a fraud case involving Wilbert.
When confronted, Tinashe confessed he was not Wilbert, but was doing the sentence as a favour to his brother.
The deception led to his arrest.
