ZRP PUBLISHES LIST OF VEHICLES CAUGHT VIOLATING TRAFFIC LIGHTS IN HARARE CBD
Is this the beginning of the end of the mayhem on the streets of the Harare CBD which has been caused by kombis and Mushikaka?
Or is this the beginning of proper driving by motorists in the capital?
Especially those who appear to have been infected by the same virus which turns kombi drivers into merchants of death on our streets and roads?
Is this the beginning of order on the streets of Harare, which have been turned into avenues of chaos, especially by the recklessness of kombi and mushikashika drivers?
From now onwards, everyone who drives into the heart of Harare knows that BIG BROTHER will be watching and it’s no longer business as usual.
Even when there is a traffic police officer in sight, the motorists know that police cameras will be recording every move and every violation of the traffic rules and regulations.
Driving, especially in the Harare CBD, has just entered into a different era.
And, the Zimbabwe Republic Police is being praised on a number of platforms, including social media, after their cameras caught almost 300 incidents of drivers violating traffic laws in the Harare CBD.
So far, police have released those who were caught violating traffic lights violations.
This is an area where the kombi and mushikashia drivers have been a real menace.
Yesterday, police released the registration plates of 290 vehicles which were captured violating traffic laws by their cameras.
The offenders have been ordered to report to the nearest police station.
They have been given seven days to report to the police.
In a statement, national police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said with the advent of technology in policing, the days of reckless driving by motorists were coming to an end.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police has embraced Electronic Traffic Management System and is appealing for cooperation from 290 motorists with the listed vehicle registration numbers to assist in the ongoing investigations.
“The motorists, or vehicle owners, are urged to fully cooperate and assist in the maintenance of law and order in the country by reporting to the Police within the next seven days.
“Drivers are reminded to be law-abiding citizens and collectively contribute towards road safety.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges the vehicle owners or those in possession of the vehicles listed to report at ZRP National Traffic offices at Mkushi Academy (formerly Morris Depot) or contact the National Complaints Desk,” said Comm Nyathi. *_-H-Metro_*
