A Solemn Tribute to Lives Lost to HIV/AIDS

The Candlelight Memorial commemorations held in Kadoma last night at Rimuka Hall, a heartfelt reminder of the lives lost to HIV/AIDS. Hon Marian Chombo, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, in her speech read by Dr Dhege, Provincial Medical Director, paid tribute to those who had succumbed to the disease.

As the candles were lit, each flame symbolized a life filled with love, dreams, and potential. The gathering took a moment to honor the memories of the departed and acknowledge the families and friends who continue to feel their absence deeply.

Hon Chombo acknowledged the significant strides made in responding to HIV/AIDS, including advances in treatment and care. However, she emphasized that stigma and discrimination remain major barriers to accessing care. She called for collective action to break down these barriers and create an environment where every individual feels safe and empowered to access services.

The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring access to healthcare for all, highlighting policies that prioritize education, prevention, and treatment. She also recognized the invaluable role of community organizations and networks of people living with HIV, emphasizing the importance of their voices and experiences in shaping policies and programs.

As the candles flickered, they symbolized not only remembrance but also hope for a future free from HIV/AIDS, where every individual has the opportunity to live a healthy and fulfilling life.

The event was well-represented by key stakeholders in the fight against HIV/AIDS, including Mr David Nyamurera, Provincial Manager, National AIDS Council,Mrs Musarapasi, Chairperson, Zimbabwe National Network of People Living with HIV and Mr Allan Makunganya, Provincial Coordinator.
Representatives from civil societies and community-based organizations.

Their presence underscored the collaborative effort to address HIV/AIDS and support those affected by the disease.
