LATE BUSINESSMAN MBOMA GETS US$8,000 UNIQUE TOMBSTONE WITH QR CODE

Have you ever heard about a tombstone with a QR barcode?

Where you can just scan the code and read everything you want to know about the person buried in that grave.

Well, class and elegance seem to follow the late Eddie “Mboma” Nyatanga − even to his grave.

His tombstone, which was unveiled at his burial site in Glen Forest Memorial Park, Harare, at the weekend is a fitting tribute to the colourful businessman who led the Zimbabwe National Supporters Association (ZNSSA).

Mboma died last year at the age of 62.

The tombstone, designed by Ngoda Granites, features a standout design that cost approximately US$8,000.

Its unique headstone is prominently placed in the centre, complemented by an imposing glass photo imported from China.

Additionally, it includes a QR barcode engraved in granite, allowing fans and friends to learn more about Nyatanga’s life by scanning the code.

Unlike his burial, which was marred by drama last year, the unveiling of the tombstone was a peaceful event.

Pastor Mirriam Chikukwa of The Kingdom presided over the ceremony and urged the warring parties to come together in honor of Nyatanga.

“Today, we celebrate the life of Nyatanga, a well-known figure in sports administration and business circles,” said Pastor Chikukwa.

“We should not dwell in the past but learn to respect his legacy. We all know he was loved as a public personality and we should honour him in the best way possible.”

She was also impressed by the unique nature of Nyatanga’s tombstone.

“This tombstone resonates well with Nyatanga’s personality. We all know the kind of person he was and this matches him,” she stressed.

Nyatanga’s widow, Dr Angeline Nyatanga, was at a loss for words as she was touched by the cooperation of friends and family.

“It was a team effort from the family to come up with this. A lot of work went into this and I am glad that it is befitting for my husband.

“I am grateful that the family came together to celebrate his life,” she said.

Dr Angie, as she is fondly known, believes the family succeeded in creating a befitting and beautiful tombstone.

“I think we have made history as a family by erecting a tombstone with a QR barcode. It lasts forever, and this is a perfect opportunity for his friends to visit his grave and learn about his life by simply scanning it.

“It’s new technology that we cannot avoid.”

Takudzwa Mbofana of Ngoda Granites, who designed the barcode engraved in granite, said his innovation was part of preserving history.

“I have always been adventurous and this initiative came from my desire to see Nyatanga respected.

“Memories should always be preserved in the best way possible,” he said.

Mbofana, who is also studying for a Bachelor of Architecture at the University of Zimbabwe, was all smiles during the ceremony. *_-H-Metro_
