Zvishavane man convicted for writing ZIMSEC exam on behalf of another
Zvishavane — A 20-year-old man from Zvishavane has been convicted for impersonation after writing a national examination on behalf of another candidate, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe said on Tuesday.
Fidelis Chipungu was found guilty by the Zvishavane Magistrates’ Court of contravening the ZIMSEC Act after he impersonated Hilton Malunga to sit for the Mathematics Paper 1 examination at George Chipadza Secondary School on 26 May 2025.
Authorities said Chipungu used Malunga’s national identity card to gain access to the exam room. After completing the paper, he was summoned to the deputy headmaster’s office, where he admitted to the offence.
The invigilator subsequently reported the matter to the police, leading to Chipungu’s arrest.
Chipungu was sentenced to two months in prison, wholly suspended on condition he completes 70 hours of community service.
The National Prosecuting Authority has reiterated its warning that cheating and exam fraud will not be tolerated.
