A highly entertaining Mashonaland West Division 2B league match between Waverly United and Barca Kadoma FC ended in a goalless draw at Waverly Primary School on Sunday.
The match was a closely contested affair, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances.
It was a defensive showdown, with both teams working tirelessly to prevent each other from scoring. Waverly United’s defense was solid, while Barca Kadoma FC’s attack struggled to find the creativity needed to break down Waverly’s defense.
Despite the lack of goals, the match was intense and competitive, with both teams creating a few half-chances. However, neither team could capitalise on their opportunities, resulting in a goalless draw.
Barca Kadoma FC came into the match with high confidence, hoping to collect maximum points and increase their points and shoot to the summit of the log, but they were met with a well-marshaled Waverly United defense and midfield, led by defense midfielder Passmore Chombe who was the man-of -the- match.
Chombe’s presence was instrumental in disrupting Barca Kadoma FC’s counter-attacks, ultimately contributing to the goalless draw.
In the first half, Barca Kadoma FC had promising moments, with their attackers failing to find the net due to either poor finishing or impressive saves from the Waverly United goalkeeper.
In the second half, Waverly United was the better side, dominating possession and creating more scoring opportunities. However, their strikers were wasteful in front of goal, failing to capitalize on their chances and leaving the match goalless.
The 0-0 draw between Waverly United and Barca Kadoma FC was evidenced by the defensive solidity of both teams. While the match lacked goals, it was a closely contested and intense affair that showcased the skills and determination of both teams. The point earned by both teams will likely be crucial in the league standings.
Speaking to Barca Kadoma FC’s coach Gift Tembo after the match, he expressed mixed feelings about the draw. While he acknowledged the competitive nature of the match, he was critical of the referees, citing some questionable decisions that he believed impacted the game’s outcome. Despite the frustration, he praised his team’s performance and looked forward to their next match.
“We were certified by the draw, but I have to say, the officiating was subpar. Unfortunately, poor refereeing is a recurring issue in our league. If we don’t address this issue, I fear the league won’t progress anywhere. We need better-trained referees who can make accurate decisions under pressure. Until then, we’ll continue to see inconsistencies that can affect the outcome of matches.” said Barca
Kadoma FC Coach
Waverly United coach Fanuel Chogari was happy to get a point but was not happy with his strikers and he said that they were going to work on that for their next away fame
“I am satisfied with the result, but I am disappointed with our strike force’s poor finishing. We created some good chances, but unfortunately, we weren’t clinical enough in front of goal. We’ll work on improving our finishing and move forward. We’re not going back to the drawing board to rehash what went wrong, but rather to prepare for our next match and build on the positives from today’s game.” said Fanuel
Man of the match Passmore Chombe said he played his heart out and he gave credit to his team mates for playing as a team and he assured their supporters of more attacking and entertainment games.
“I’m thrilled with the result, and I’m proud of the way I played. I gave it my all out there, and my teammates were fantastic. We played as a unit, and that’s what made the difference. I want to thank them for their support and hard work. To our fans, I want to say thank you for your continued support. We’ve got some exciting games coming up, and we’re going to play more attacking, entertaining football. Stick with us, and I promise you won’t be disappointed!” said Passmore.
