6 KILLED AS HONDA FIT COLLIDES WITH TRUCK NEAR HEADLANDS

Six people died on the spot Sunday evening when a Honda Fit they were travelling in collided head-on with a heavy truck near Yorkshire in Headlands.

 

The accident occurred around 7:30 PM at the 142-kilometre peg along the Mutare-Harare Highway.

 

The truck, a Sino Howo belonging to Chris Logistics, was heading towards Harare, while the Honda Fit, carrying six passengers including the driver, was en route to Rusape.

 

Preliminary reports suggest the Honda Fit was speeding and attempted to overtake a tractor on a blind curve.

 

It allegedly encroached into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with the truck.

 

The smaller vehicle became trapped beneath the truck and was dragged for approximately 50 metres. All six occupants suffered severe injuries and died at the scene.

 

Their bodies were taken to the Rusape General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations.

 

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the incident in an official statement issued on Monday, 23 June. The statement reads:

 

_The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 142 kilometre peg along Harare-Mutare Road on 22nd June 2025, at around 1930 hours where six people died after a Honda Fit vehicle collided head-on with a Sino Howo truck._

 

_The driver of the Honda Fit vehicle was driving towards Mutare with five passengers on board and on approaching a blind curve at the 142 kilometre peg, he attempted to overtake a tractor while there was an oncoming Sino Howo truck, resulting in a head-on collision._

 

_As a result of the crash, all six occupants of the Honda Fit vehicle died on the spot. The bodies were taken to Rusape General Hospital for post-mortem._

 

_The Zimbabwe Republic Police will release the names of victims after their next of kin have been notified._ *_-Pindula_*
