Chitungwiza man jailed three years for robbing EcoCash agent
A 29-year-old Chitungwiza man who stole cash and goods amounting to US$2 340 from an EcoCash agent and her friend at Zvipoto Shops, Unit O, Chitungwiza and threatened them with death, has been jailed for three years and eight months.
Providence Shumba of Number 17439 of Unit P, Seke was convicted by Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi.
Public Prosecutor Shamiso Charmaine Mwapangira proved that on June 25 this year, Shumba went to Zvipoto Shops in Unit O around 6:30 pm and barged into the shop where Ecocash agent Ms Tafadzwa Gwiti and her friend Ms Loveness Muswe were counting money.
He ordered Ms Gwiti to hand over the cash and she gave him US$180. He gave the same order to Ms Muswe but she did not comply.
He produced a knife and pointed it at the left side of Ms Muswe’s chest and threatened to stab her.
Shumba ordered them to cover their faces with a cloth while he went behind the counter, took Ms Muswe’s cash amounting to US$560 which was on the shelf.
He also took three cellphones an Itel A50C, Huawei Smart, 1 657 NetOne and Econet recharge cards and a small brown bag.
Shumba then ordered the two to remove their head covers and left. However, his luck ran out after the two ladies cried for help and members of the public responded.
They chased Shumba and he dropped an Itel A50C that belonged to Tonderai Katema. He was later intercepted by some touts who apprehended him and he was handed over to the police. Herald
