Bluetooth sex scandal rocks family

A DARK cloud of mystery and suspicion hangs over a Mutasa family, beset by unexplained deaths, spiritual afflictions and bizarre claims of mubobobo, which have shattered trust, and prompted relatives to wash their dirty linen in public.

What began as a desperate plea for help from Samuel Magombeyi before Chief Mutasa’s community court recently escalated into a bitter blame game, revealing deep-seated fears of avenging spirits, witchcraft and supernatural torment tearing the family apart.

A visibly exhausted Samuel explained that his daughter, Tafadzwa, had fallen mysteriously ill, and that traditional healing efforts had only exacerbated the chaos.

“My daughter fell ill mysteriously. She would not disclose what was wrong.

All I knew was that she would fall ill at her husband’s homestead, but recover upon returning home.

She later claimed that one of my nephews was casting evil spirits on her and that it was the spirit of someone killed in a hit-and-run accident by a family member wreaking havoc.

That is when the healer referred us to the chief,” said Samuel.

Tafadzwa confirmed that she was unwell and in need of help.

“I am unsure if I have lost my mental faculties or if something else is amiss, as these episodes typically occur when I am at my husband’s home. I only regain my senses at my father’s home, where people inform me that I have been behaving as if possessed, accusing others of possessing mubobobo, murder and various other misdeeds,” she said.

However, instead of rallying around the issue, Samuel claimed that the rest of the family distanced themselves.

“Many of our children have died mysteriously without any medical explanation. Even our cattle have been hit by cars. I implored George, Shadreck, and Edson to address this issue collectively, but they dismissed it as my own cross to carry, not theirs. I am not accusing anyone — I simply want us to support one another,” he said.

His plea, however, struck a nerve.

Rudo Magombeyi, his niece, dismissed Samuel’s story as attention-seeking and manipulative.

“All this is mere drama. I once held him in high regard as my uncle, but not now. He claimed to possess charms that granted him insight and offered me some, which I declined. Perhaps those charms have backfired, afflicting his children. To him, everyone in this family is a witch — we are sick and tired of his accusations,” she said.

Her sister-in-law, Emilia Magombeyi, struggled to contain her anger.

“Since I married into this family, my life has been a living nightmare. Most of my children have passed away, leaving only two. One is incapacitated and unable to walk or perform daily tasks. Yet, I have never blamed anyone. When I requested for Samuel’s assistance in taking my child to the hospital, he callously accused me of harming my own children.

“I asked him to join me in consulting traditional healers when my children were ill, but he refused. Now, he expects us to participate in resolving his own problems. This is despite his lack of support when my children were dying,” she lamented in court.

Samuel’s nephew, George, added his own grievances, accusing him of hiding behind insinuations.

George recounted a disturbing incident: “One day, my son overheard Samuel claiming that I was responsible for running over the person who is now believed to be the avenging spirit. I confronted him, and he denied it, instead accusing Christopher. On the same day, Tafadzwa accused me of wanting to kill her and preventing her from getting married, despite being already married. I thought she was losing her mind, as no one allegedly possessed would behave in such a manner.”

Edson Magombeyi, another nephew, said he first learnt of Tafadzwa’s illness in 2021.

“She claimed that there was someone possessing mubobobo within the family, alleging that it was being used to sexually abuse women. How does one even respond to such an accusation?” he asked, referencing the alleged supernatural phenomenon of ‘sexual bluetooth.’

Talent Chakabvakure, who married into the family, shared a chilling pattern that has haunted her motherhood.

“I have lost two babies, both of whom died mysteriously in March of different years. The last one passed away in March 2024. I implore the family to assist us. I fear that if I give birth again, my child will meet the same fate. It always occurs in March. Why? My husband’s family should help us, rather than wasting time on fighting.”

Shadreck Magombeyi, one of the nephews, also pleaded for unity.

“Let us cease fighting and blaming one another. We must come together to uncover the truth behind these events. This cannot continue,” he said.

Chief Mutasa urged the family to treat the issue with the seriousness it deserves.

“These matters are not to be taken lightly. You must stop the blame game and seek help. If the healer claims that this is a spiritual issue, then consult other traditional healers as a family. Do not rest until you uncover the truth. The only way to cleanse this family is to work together,” he said before adjourning the matter to a later date.
