Bring Sanity On Our Roads
The devastating accident on July 22, 2025, at least 17 lives were lost when a haulage truck collided with a kombi near Manyame River Bridge. Among the deceased were two children and two pedestrians, who were initially struck by the truck before it rammed into the passenger vehicle. Witnesses reported that the truck driver swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid a Honda Fit, which are known for dangerous driving habits that have become alarmingly common on Zimbabwe’s roads.
The increasing prevalence of reckless driving. Drivers frequently engage in risky behaviors, over taking of the left side, excessive speeding and lane changes without signaling. Despite numerous accidents and fatalities, enforcement appears lax, with police failing to take adequate measures to curb this growing menace.
Calls for more stringent traffic regulations and better driver education are becoming louder, as families mourn the loss of their loved ones due to preventable accidents. It is imperative that authorities take decisive action to enhance road safety, ensuring that such tragedies do not continue to plague our communities. The time for change is now before more lives are lost on our roads.
No life should be taken away because of bad drivers on our roads.
