City Of Harare Speaks On Latest Glen View 8 Furniture Complex Fire

A devastating fire broke out at the Glen View 8 Furniture Complex in Harare on Sunday 27 July 2025, prompting an emergency response from the City of Harare’s fire brigade and volunteers from the Emergency Help Group.

At least 300,000 litres of water were mobilised to battle the blaze, which has since been contained.

Mayor Mafume Responds To The Inferno
Speaking from the scene, Harare Mayor Councillor Jacob Mafume praised the swift and coordinated response by fire services and volunteers.

“As has become the norm, the Mayor rushed to the scene to inspire our firefighters and give support,” the City of Harare said in a statement shared on Facebook at 10:53 AM.

The post continued:

“The fire has since been contained by the City of Harare fire brigade. The City would like to thank the gallant firefighters and the Emergency Help Group which helped mobilise 300,000 litres of water to fight the fire.”

Investigations Underway Into Fire Cause
Earlier on the same day, the City of Harare had confirmed the fire in a separate Facebook post, stating that the blaze had engulfed the furniture complex.

“A devastating fire has engulfed Glen View 8 Furniture Complex and the City of Harare fire brigade is currently attending to the inferno,”
the 10:11 AM post read.

Authorities are now investigating the cause of the fire. While the exact source is yet to be confirmed, officials noted that the furniture complex is known to have “large deposits of shavings,” which are highly flammable.

Calls For Fire Safety Measures
This is not the first time the Glen View 8 Furniture Complex has been hit by fire. Traders and residents have previously called for improved safety infrastructure, including fire hydrants and surveillance systems.

However, no further official statements have been made on future fire prevention plans or possible damages from Sunday’s incident. There were no immediate reports of injuries or fatalities.
