Grace Mugabe’s exclusive 60th birthday bash sends social media into a frenzy

Former First Lady Grace Mugabe quietly marked her 60th birthday on Saturday, August 2, 2025, with a lavish yet tightly guarded celebration at her Blue Roof mansion in Harare’s elite Borrowdale suburb. While the private affair was meant to remain under wraps, leaked footage and social media posts quickly transformed it into one of the most talked-about events of the weekend.

Videos from the party showcased an elegant setting, opulent décor, and a star-studded guest list that has since raised eyebrows across the country. At the center of the intrigue was the surprising presence of both ruling party heavyweights and figures associated with Zimbabwe’s opposition—an unusual mix that has triggered widespread speculation about its political significance.

Among the most notable attendees were Second Lady Miniyothabo “Minnie” Baloyi, wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, and Elizabeth Macheka, widow of late MDC leader and former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai. Also present were ZANU PF spokesperson Chris Mutsvangwa, Grace’s brother and former ZANU PF National Political Commissar Mike Bimha, along with his wife Tsitsi Bimha.

What began as a celebration of a personal milestone quickly took on political overtones. Online commentators began to dissect the guest list, interpreting the event as either a subtle signal of shifting alliances or a symbolic gesture of political détente.

“I am so keen to figure out the bigger political picture playing out here, all the same Happy Birthday Dr Amai,” wrote Admire Nyasha Masiiwa in a widely circulated post.

Others offered more critical perspectives, referencing Grace Mugabe’s fall from power during the 2017 military-led transition that ended her husband Robert Mugabe’s presidency. “Dining with people who stripped you of your powers and authority,” posted Tungi Makura in a scathing comment that summed up the sentiments of many observers.

The event also reignited conversations about President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s leadership style. “ED is soft as wool for sure, after what she put him through. As long as you are not a threat, you are safe,” tweeted political commentator Farai Herbert, adding fuel to the already heated debate.

Adding a touch of stardom to the evening, popular Afro-contemporary artist Jah Prayzah performed live at the party. His energetic set, captured in clips that quickly went viral, provided a celebratory backdrop to an event layered with deeper implications.

Though Grace Mugabe has remained largely out of the public eye since the end of her husband’s rule, this birthday celebration has once again positioned her at the center of national conversation—this time not for her political ambitions, but for her ability to command attention and stir controversy, even in apparent retirement.
