Econet to Launch New Data Packages
Econet Wireless Zimbabwe is set to introduce new data packages to enhance its current SmartBiz offering, following valuable feedback from customers. The company acknowledged concerns raised by subscribers over the implementation of the Fair Usage Policy (FUP) on its SmartBiz data plans, which have proved to be very popular among small businesses, churches, schools and home users.

The new data offerings will provide more options, flexibility and value – ensuring that customers have the liberty to choose packages tailored to their personal, educational or business needs. According to Econet, the changes are part of its broader vision to ensure inclusive digital access for all Zimbabweans while maintaining service quality across its network, which remains the most extensive in the country.
Industry data has shown a significant jump in data consumption across Zimbabwe in the recent past, with more users turning to digital platforms for remote work, e-learning, e-commerce, and content streaming. The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) annual sector performance report for 2024 noted that mobile internet and data traffic consumption rose by 75.09%, to 299.77 petabytes (PBs) in the year, up from 171.21 PBs consumed in 2023.
Econet said the new upcoming packages are expected to enhance customer choice while preserving the integrity and sustainability of its network resources amid surging demand for mobile data and broadband services. “We are introducing new, broader data packages that offer more choice – so that you can select the option that best suits your needs,” Econet said in a notice to customers.
The company believes these new packages are a positive step forward, giving customers greater flexibility and ensuring a better experience for all. “Thank you for your continued loyalty and patience as we build a stronger, more sustainable digital future together,” Econet added.
