‎Epworth Local Board on mission to erect streetlights in every area


‎The Epworth Local Board is at an advanced stage with plans to install streetlights in every area of the surbub once regarded as informal settlement but now slowly attaining town status.

The Harare East surbub’s municipality has also embarked on several developmental initiatives which are now yielding results as major developments are witnessed in the area.

‎The Local Authority has also embarked on several empowerment projects, engaging residents of the area in a bid to curb unemployment which was leading to high criminality, as well as reduce drug and substance abuse and prostitution.

said the installation of streetlights is nearing completion and every neighborhood of Epworth will soon be having streetlights.
“This wil ensure our residents are safe from criminals, at the same time developing the community so as to align with our ambition to reach a town status,” Dr Mhanda said.

‎”We are at an advance stage to install streetlights in our areas here in Epworth through the developmental works we are undertaking, as we wish to attain a town status soon.”

‎Dr Mhanda indicated that several developmental projects were on course to develop Epworth so it attains town status soon, a major development for the suburb which was once looked down upon as an option informal settlement.

‎”We have the construction of roads going on ,the transformation of our clinic into a hospital,several empowerment projects which are benefiting our residents,these are all calculated efforts to improve the area so as to attain a town status soon,” said the Epworth Local Board Boss.

‎ Mhanda said ,Epworth had become famous for high criminality activities with murder cases being reported before regularisation,drug and substance abuse had also become uncontrollable in the area and prostitution had become rampant normal, due to the high.levels of unemployment in the area .

‎” We thank God that our are has now improved in cases of crimes being committed after regularisation as police can now trace the suspects ,drug and substance abuse is decreasing due to many empowerment initiatives which are keeping the youths occupied,”

‎Prostitution is also declining as most of women who were engaging in the activity now have something to do,” said Dr Wilton Mhanda
