H-TOWN SET FOR ECONOMIC BOOM AS THOUSANDS MEET FOR JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES CONVENTION

HARARE is set for an economic boom this weekend with 4,000 foreign delegates, from 14 countries including the United States and Europe, and 40,000 local participants, expected for the Jehovah’s Witnesses Church convention.

It is set for the National Sports Stadium from Friday to Sunday. Another convention will take place between September 5-7 at the same venue.

Harare was selected as one of 15 cities worldwide to host the 2025 “Pure Worship!” international convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Jehovah’s Witnesses spokesperson, Kudakwashe Chikuvadze, said the event would provide a major boost to the capital city’s economy.

“We hosted a similar event in 2014 at the National Sports Stadium and we are happy to return 11 years later,” he said.

“The two events will create a substantial economic impact for hospitality, airlines and local businesses. “This year’s theme focuses on true devotion, faith and uplifting pure worship.”

The programme will include Bible-based lectures, dramatic video presentations, interviews and personal experiences. Chikuvadze said Harare’s selection for the 2025 international series underscores the city’s capacity to host large-scale gatherings and provide opportunities for cultural exchange.

The church’s Conventions Coordinator, Austin Makova, said: “The church aims to foster cultural exchange and hospitality, visiting areas lacking internet access to provide assistance.

“The church has established teams to respond to emergencies, such as the Chimanimani cyclone disaster.” Makova highlighted the church’s commitment to serve beyond traditional teachings.

“We do more than teaching on street corners, we invade various communities to promote association,” said Makova.

Over 2,500 volunteers are dedicated to ensuring cleanliness at the venue.

Makova said the event was free and an opportunity for spiritual and cultural enrichment.

Police Commissioner General Stephen Mutamba, represented by Chaplain General Lloyd Bepura, assured delegates their security was guaranteed.
