Ngezi Hurricanes FC delivered a stunning performance on Friday, thrashing Berks 3-0 at Pfupajena stadium. The much anticipated clash turned into a nightmare for the home side as they were handed a humiliating defeat by the visiting team in front of their own fans. What was anticipated to be a tightly contested fixture ended in a one sided affair, with the visitors hammering their host 3-0 in a dominant display of attacking football.
From the start, the visitors showed intent, pressing high up in the pitch and controlling possession. Their break through came late in the first half when Edmore Kasirori capitalised a chance inside the box to slot home the opener in the 35th minute .The goal set the tone for the evening, and the away side never looked back.
Berks backed by a passionate crowed, tried to mount a response but were constantly undone by the pace and the precion of their opponent. By half time the score line was still 1-0, leaving the fans stunned and frustrated.
The second half offered no respite for the host. The away side continued to pile on the pressure, with Shepherd Munetsi completing a brace and sealing the rout. The home defense looked in disarray, while their attack lacked creativity and attacking edge.
The decisive moment came in the 80th minute. Against the run of play, Hurricanes FC broke on the counter attack and pressurized Berks goalkeeper who mistakenly made a short pass and was later punished when the ball was stolen and passed to Praise Mutetwa who slotted to what proved to be the winner.
Boos rang out from the stands as the final whistle confirmed the defeat. For the visitors, however, it was a night of celebration marking one of their emphatic wins in recent memory after a streak of 5 consecutive draws.
Speaking after the match, Hurricane FC assistant coach, Mr Charles, “Charle”Kwenda hailed his players discipline and hunger.
” We came here with a plan and the boy executed it perfectly. To dominate like this away from home shows the character of this team”, he said.
Meanwhile Collen Chiwara a diehard fan of Berks admitted his side were second best on the night.
“We simply didn’t show up. We deserve better and we must bounce back quickly from this setback”
This victory lifts Hurricanes FC to second in the log with 38 points, just one point behind the log leaders FC Barcelona. With both teams still in the tittle hunt, the race promises to go down to the wire.
