Robbers Return For More Money After Stealing US$14,000
A terrifying home invasion in Bulawayo’s Gwabalanda suburb left a woman US$14,000 poorer on Wednesday night.
The 30-year-old resident was inside her home with her 17-year-old niece when two masked men, wearing balaclavas, forced their way in through an unlocked door.
The intruders reportedly threatened the women before making off with the cash, leaving the family shaken.
Bulawayo Police Deputy Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu, confirmed the incident. Said Asst Insp Ndlovu:
“On August 27, 2025 at around 2000 hours, the complainant, a female adult aged 30 of Gwabalanda, was sitting in her dining room together with her niece aged 17 when the two unknown accused persons entered the house through an unlocked door putting on balaclavas.
“They produced an unknown object, grabbed the complainant’s niece by the neck ordering her to go and collect all the cash that was in the house.
“They force-marched her to her aunt’s bedroom where she took a purse containing cash amounting to US$10000 which she handed over to them.”
The suspects left the scene with the US$14,000 but shockingly returned just minutes later, confronting the terrified women once again and demanding even more money. Said Asst Insp Ndlovu:
“After a few minutes, the accused persons came back and demanded more cash, stating that the cash they were given was much less than what they had been sent to get from the complainant.
“The complainant then surrendered another purse containing cash amounting to US$4000.”
The robbers didn’t stop at cash. They also seized a 50-inch Samsung television before fleeing, allegedly warning the terrified woman that they would return if the total money at her home fell short of US$20,000.
The total value of the stolen property is estimated at US$14,400. So far, no arrests have been made, and none of the stolen items have been recovered.
Assistant Inspector Ndlovu urged residents to avoid keeping large sums of money at home.
She also urged residents to keep their financial information private, warning that trust cannot be assumed.
