Court grants man protection order against girlfriend

The Harare Civil Court has granted a protection order in favour of a man against his former girlfriend, whom he accused of attempting to disrupt his marriage.

Magistrate Johanna Mukwesha issued the order after Ian Jasi testified that Fiona Gwengwere had been interfering in his marriage and causing him emotional distress.

Jasi told the court that he had ended his relationship with Gwengwere several months ago, having realised it was no longer healthy. He said:

“I am focusing on my family now. She calls me every time, even using a different number.

“She is threatening to cause more harm since she is jealous that I have moved on with my life and I am prospering.”

Gwengwere allegedly refused to accept the end of the relationship. According to Jasi, she began stalking him and even threatened to turn up at his workplace and home uninvited.

He further claimed that Gwengwere threatened to reveal private details of their past relationship to his wife if he did not comply with her demands.

The court was told that Gwengwere demanded financial support and gifts, and when he refused, she vowed to destroy his marriage. Said Jasi:

“She has been tormenting me and my family, she calls me, sends messages filled with lies and insults, and even tells me that I will never leave her.

“She has threatened to tell people things that will humiliate me and make my wife leave me. My home is no longer peaceful, and my marriage is on the rocks.”

Jasi claimed that his wife has been left deeply distressed by Gwengwere’s continued interference.

He said the messages from his former partner have led to arguments within his marriage.

Jasi told the court that he sought legal intervention to protect his family from further emotional harm, saying he simply wishes to live peacefully without interference.
