Seven Killed in Horror Masvingo-Beitbridge Road Crash, Police Confirm
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed that seven people died while 15 others were injured in a tragic road traffic accident along the Masvingo–Beitbridge highway in the early hours of Friday.
Police said the accident occurred at the 175 km peg around 2:45 AM and involved a Yutong bus carrying 48 passengers, a Toyota Aqua with five occupants, and a Toyota Dyna truck with two people on board.
“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident involving three vehicles, a Yutong bus, a Toyota Aqua and a Toyota Dyna truck, which occurred at the 175 km peg along Masvingo-Beitbridge Road on 12/09/25 at 0245 hours.
“Seven people died and 15 others were injured,” police said in a statement.
According to authorities, the bus, which was travelling towards Beitbridge, collided head-on with the Aqua and subsequently struck the Toyota Dyna, both of which were heading towards Masvingo.
Two passengers from the bus, three occupants from the Toyota Aqua including the driver and two people from the Dyna, among them the driver, died on the spot.
Thirteen bus passengers and two Aqua passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital.
Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing, with more details expected in due course.
Meanwhile, police in Beitbridge are probing a suspected murder case involving a couple identified as Nyasha Madenyika (32) and Farai Prosper Longwe (34), whose bodies were discovered in their home in the town’s Medium Density suburb on Wednesday.
“The bodies had gunshot wounds, with Nyasha Madenyika shot on the cheek and Farai Prosper Longwe on the right side of the ear.
“The police recovered a Smith and Wesson Revolver loaded with three live rounds, which was found in Farai Prosper Longwe’s right hand, along with three spent cartridges and 36 live rounds,” the ZRP confirmed.
